a journey through the jungle of legal, accounting, tax and financing issues ...

The seminar is aimed at all those who are self-employed as producers or want to become one. We will embark on a joint journey to the essential knowledge stations that must not be bypassed when it comes to legal issues, tax regulations and financing problems. The itinerary with the exact contents and focal points will be agreed upon together with the participants at the beginning of the seminar. Depending on the composition and wishes, individual questions and specific problems can be dealt with more intensively.

Topics of the seminar will be:

  • legal forms of independent cultural work: individuals, GbR, corporate bodies such as associations or GmbHs. Advantages and disadvantages of the individual legal forms

  • taxes and duties, including value-added tax and artists' social security funds

  • accounting, what do I need to know?

  • non-profit status and eligibility for funding

  • self-employment, bogus self-employment, dependent employment

  • fees, expense allowances, and other forms of payment

The goal is to achieve a basic understanding of these issues so that people can then do their own research. The aim is to convey so much certainty that people do not have to panic about every rumor that circulates on the internet.

Dr. Elke Flake helped to build up the Brunsviga Cultural and Communication Center in Braunschweig in the early 1980s and was managing director in the area of administration and finances until 2019. Since 1991, she was additionally active as a regional advisor of the Landesverband Soziokultur Niedersachsen as a cultural advisor and had to do with all areas of the independent cultural sector.
