numbers with a stance: ethical and strategic reflections for drawing up budgets

Once the funding for a project is acquired, it is often a challenge to adjust the project budget in line with your own values and working methods. Especially when not every collaborator enters the process at the same time.

In this workshop, we will therefore present and discuss a budget template that not only contains concrete figures and sources (e. g. minimum fee recommendation, hourly rates for sign language interpreters, etc.), but also provides key questions for reflection on budget-justice and the implications for ethics and working methods. The aim is to clearly anchor the strategic and ethical positioning of the project and the people involved right from the initial budgeting process. 

The workshop is based on almost four years of experience and findings from produktionsbande collaboration and network activities. It is hosted in cooperation with the fostering connections qualification program ‚fostering strategies’ of the federal association for the independent performing arts (German abbreviation: BFDK).

The developed template will eventually be made available in the resources section of produktionsbande’s website and on the campus independent performing arts website.

Depending on the group size, there will be opportunities for interaction and discussion in breakout sessions and in plenary. We will take a short break approximately every hour, but we will strive to maintain a relaxed atmosphere: cameras are not mandatory; participants are encouraged to do what they need to attend.

The workshop is open for all independent performing arts professionals.
Experience with productions and budgetg plans is helpful, but not required.
